I absolutely love teaching this workshop because it’s simple, it’s fun, it’s educational, and most of all, very practical. This workshop addresses probably the biggest problem of our age: childhood obesity. It equips parents with basic tools to improve the overall health and well-being of their children through good nutrition, fun physical activities, family lifestyle worth modeling and a positive attitude. 

L.E.A.N. Child Nutrition Course Details

The program allows parents and caregivers to experience nutrition and play, experiment with healthy food and learn interactive games appropriate for children. It also demonstrates simple strategies to implement; including effective methods for prevention and intervention in families where childhood obesity or nutrition related behaviors are a concern. The L.E.A.N. Start Program was developed by Dr. Sears, known as “America’s Pediatrician,” and Sean Foy, M.A., a leading exercise physiologist and nutrition expert. While most nutrition education programs target children, the L.E.A.N. Start Program is one of the first to be uniquely designed for parents and caregivers. Dr. Sears and Foy found that impacting the parents’ behavior is key to successfully managing the health of our children.

This module teaches an easy to understand and implement way of healthy eating. You will learn exactly: • What your body needs • What foods to eat and what foods to avoid • Portion control • Healthy eating habits • Ways to get your family moving
We go a little bit deeper into the role and importance of carbohydrates, and learn about: • Why a brainy breakfast is important • Ten brainy breakfast tips • How to choose a nutritious cereal
While learning about vegetables and fruits, you will also learn: • About the importance of fiber • Ten fiber boosting tips • About how to make happy hormones • How exercise benefits the brain
We must debunk this myth of fat makes us fat – in this module you learn about: • Facts about fat • What good fats we all should be eating • Ways to graze • Fast food eating tips • How to build strong muscles
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of protein: • Why protein is good for you and how much is enough • What kind of protein we should eat • Making play part of your life • How to prevent injuries
This session teaches: • Why water is important and ways to water your body • How much water we should drink • The scoop on soda • Ways to increase your flexibility
In this session we discuss: • Health claims and their reliability • How to decipher product labels
This last session is all about: • Safe and fun physical activity for the entire family
